Dr Stas Tiomkin is an assistant professor in Computer Engineering at SJSU. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Robot Learning Lab by Prof Pieter Abbeel, Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research, UC Berkeley. He received a PhD under the guidance of Prof Nafatli Tishby and Prof Daniel Polani in Computer Science and Engineering, Hebrew University, Israel. Previously, he received a MSc from the Viterbi Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Technion I.I.T. – Israel Institute of Technology, and a double major BSc in Computer Engineering and Physics from Hebrew University.
Research Interests: artificial intelligence and life, reinforcement learning, human-machine collaboration, information processing in dynamical control systems, intrinsic motivation and unsupervised learning, robotics, structured deep learning, geometric control, and information theory.
